- Start with a Scenic Drive along Kinikini Road A road trip to Mahia wouldn’t be complete without driving down Kinikini Road. Enjoy epic views of the cliffs, valleys and Peninsula itself – there are almost too many photo opportunities! Note: Kinikini Road is winding and unsealed.
- Mahia Seaside Markets While the next market won’t be until Easter, it’s worth the trip to enjoy the range of stalls offering local produce, baking, arts and crafts, jewellery and more.
Location: Off Pohutukawa Street on the waterfront or, if wet, at Mokotahi Hall in Mahia Beach. - Lunch at the Beach Cafe With its classic surf, sand and road trip theme the Beah Café is the perfect stop for travellers. From pizzas named after local surf breaks to some of the best fish n’ chips, coffee, cakes and more!
Location: 43 Moana Drive, Mahia Beach. - Mahanga Beach Mahia has many stunning beaches but we think Mahanga Beach is something special about it. Unwind with a walk or just enjoy and relax. Feeling active? Its great for surfing, boogie boarding and swimming.
Location: Mahanga Road - Coronation Reserve Make time for the stunning, historical Coronation Reserve. From its majestic rocky outcrops to its secluded sandy beaches and rock pools, ready for exploring, there is a little something for everyone.
Location: South of the boat ramp at Whangawehi, along the Mahia East Coast Road. - Morere Springs When you’re leaving the Peninsula, make sure to stop in at Morere for a dip in the hot pools. Let the hot mineral pools wash over you or take a gentle 20 minute stroll through the nikau palm forest.
Location: When leaving Mahia Peninsula, turn right into SH 2 and travel about 9km to Morere.
